Baked Walnut Cinnamon and Honey Pears

I can honestly say that I was not expecting this dessert to please my palate as much as some of the other desserts that I have made. Lesson learned for me because you know the old saying: “You can’t judge a book by its cover?” Well, I should not have judged the Bartlett pear by its skin.

And yes, I admit that I was very wrong to pre-judge this scrumptious treat. Pears when juicy and sweet can stand-alone and be absolutely delicious. Now, imagine baked and paired with walnuts, cinnamon and honey.  It is definitely worth trying and keeping in your dessert rotation.

Baked Walnut Cinnamon and Honey Pears

Ingredients

  • 2 medium pears

  • 1/4 cup walnuts

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F.
  • Take the pears and slice each one in half. Scoop out the pit. Place them on a baking sheet or dish.
  • To each pear half, add 1/2 teaspoon of walnuts and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Drizzle honey over the walnuts and cinnamon.
  • Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes and serve warm with some whipped cream if you desire. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Any kind of pear can be used.
  • This recipe also works well with apples.

I used medium-sized Bartlett pears. Bosc and Anjou pears are also good baking pears and they can be found all year round in supermarkets or at your local farmers market.

This dessert packs a huge punch and without the calorie guilt. For the record, food should be enjoyed, with family and friends because that is where the best memories are made: at the table, fellowshipping. This particular recipe does not require walks around the block. 

The Barlett pears that I used were ripe but not too soft.  You do not want to use mushy pears.  You should use nice, firm to soft pears. I sliced the pear into two halves and scooped out the pit. I then added the walnuts, cinnamon and drizzled honey over each pear.

In lieu of honey, you can drizzle the pear with maple syrup.  I then placed the pears in a baking dish and placed them into the oven for 20 minutes at 350° F degrees. I let them cool for a few minutes and added a little whipped cream to my serving. And, when I tried it, I was in Pear Heaven. I could hardly believe that a dessert so healthy could taste so delectable.  I don’t think I will ever bite into a simple pear again and not think about this recipe. 

It can be eaten any time of the day.  Try it for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you wish.  My favorite part about making this pear dessert was the clean up.  It was super fast and easy.  Of course, I had to soak my baking dish a little longer than usual because the honey stuck to the dish but that pales in comparison to my satisfied taste buds. If you do not want to soak your dish like I did, just use a piece of parchment paper to place in the pan.

Even if this is your first time ever baking anything, you cannot go wrong with this baked pear. I am finding that there is no one way of doing things in your kitchen. I tend to use what I have in my pantry and get as creative as my mind allows me. Most people like simplicity and I get that too. Simple can be good.

I should say that this unassuming pear should not have been judged so harshly by me because of the content of its skin. Because when I cut it in half and paired it with the walnuts, cinnamon and honey it drizzled and sizzled. I hope you enjoy these Baked Walnut Cinnamon and Honey Pears!
