Homemade Italian Bread Crumbs

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces bread, cut into equal sized-cubed (hard stale bread or toasted)

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, or dried Italian seasoning

Directions

  • To a food processor, add stale/toasted cubed bread, salt, garlic powder, and thyme/dried Italian seasoning.
  • Blend until you achieve fine crumbs.
  • Use to bread food such as chicken or fish. Or, allow them to cool completely and store in an airtight container for up to 1 year.

Notes

  • These bread crumbs can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 year. 

Bread crumbs are easy to whip up too! If you have hardened leftover or stale bread you can simply blend it up and it’s ready to use. However, if the bread is still on the softer side, be sure to get it nice and toasty first so it can harden. Moist bread yields gummy textured bread crumbs. Bread crumbs should be dry.
