Notes

  • Mushrooms hold a lot of water so, it will take a few minutes for them to get brown when cooking.

A lot of people are not aware of the fact that mushrooms contain quite a bit of water. So, they can take a while to achieve their sauteed brown color when cooking. They will first steam off any water when placed in the skillet. Then they will start to cook.

So, since mushrooms contain a lot of water, you should not add much extra. Do not completely submerge them in water to wash them. The best way to prep them is to simply wipe them off with a damp paper towel to get rid of any dirt. Or, you can also give them a little spritz with water, drain them and then pat them dry with a paper towel.

To get started on making these, heat olive oil and butter together in a medium-sized skillet. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté them for 8 minutes. Then season with garlic powder. You can also use jarred minced garlic. However, garlic powder is what most people have on hand. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste. Cook the mushrooms for 2 more minutes. If you are fine cooking with alcohol, then you can certainly use a dash of wine (red or white) in this recipe. Simply add the wine and allow the alcohol to burn off for 30 seconds. Then, remove the skillet from the heat. No rest time is needed! You want this dish to stay hot! So, serve and enjoy!
