Not only do these Dark Chocolate Candied Orange Slices make for a beautiful dessert and pretty presentation, but they are unique in their flavor. The combination of both orange and chocolate is a unique blend. I remember the first time I had a chocolate-covered orange and I immediately was hooked. Chocolate-covered oranges are up there as my favorite chocolate-covered fruit along with chocolate-covered strawberries.

The pairing of orange citrus and dark chocolate together makes for a unique palate-pleasing flavor. This recipe makes enough for 12 servings. The ingredients that you will need to make these Dark Chocolate Candied Orange Slices are 2 large oranges, sliced into ⅛ inch rounds, 2 cups of water, ½ cup of granulated sugar, and ½ cup of chopped dark chocolate.

To get started on making these preheat the oven to 180°F/82°C. Then, bring 2 cups of water and ½ cup of granulated sugar to a boil so that the sugar dissolves. Once the sugar water is boiled, turn off the heat and add the orange slices. Place the orange slices on a baking sheet and bake them for 3 hours. After 3 hours, remove them from the oven and set them aside.

Now, the chocolate dipping process begins! To do so, first, line the same baking sheet with parchment paper. Next, in a small saucepan over low heat, melt the dark chocolate. Dip the orange slices halfway in the melted chocolate. Then, place them on the baking sheet. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set. Finally, remove them from the refrigerator. Serve and Enjoy!

A good rule of thumb for this recipe is to use sweet oranges. That way, you can cut down on the amount of granulated sugar you need to use in this recipe. Since my oranges were already sweet, I only needed to use ½ cup of sugar. However, if your oranges are a bit more acidic and on the bitter side, then use more sugar. Adding a couple of tablespoons at a time to sweeten it up a bit will suffice.

As you can tell, making these Dark Chocolate Dipped Oranges takes some time, but it is so worth it. However, for 3 hours, your home will be perfectly naturally scented with notes of sweet orange and orange zest. If you want to make these into holiday gifts, put them in little baggies or boxes and tie a ribbon around them. Gift them to your family and friends this holiday season. However you choose to utilize this recipe, I hope that you enjoy it! Happy Baking… and Dipping!
