Peanut Butter and Chocolate Banana Poppers

I promise you, you will “Go Bananas” for this recipe. Why? It is so easy and healthy to make. This adult and child friendly recipe has only three ingredients: bananas, peanut butter and chocolate. It is a treat that will keep you coming back for more. Bananas are a great source of potassium and peanut butter has numerous benefits if eaten in moderation. And chocolate?  Well, it speaks for itself. All three ingredients combined and you are packing a powerful combination of: yummy, creamy, dreamy and healthy goodness.

I cannot even blame you if you choose to eat them all in one sitting. For this particular recipe, I made enough for four to six servings. This is the kind of creation that does not have to look perfect to taste extraordinary.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 medium-ripe bananas, sliced

  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips, melted

Directions

  • After slicing the bananas, spread peanut butter on one slide and sandwich another slice on top.
  • Dip in melted chocolate and refrigerate for 15-30 minutes.
  • Remove from the refrigerator and serve as is or top with peanut butter drizzle or course salt. Enjoy!

Notes

  • If your peanut butter is runny, refrigerate it after spreading on the bananas and then dip in chocolate.
  • This recipe works with almond butter and cashew butter as well.

I started out wanting to drizzle the peanut butter onto the chocolate, but the peanut butter did not drizzle and it still tastes just as good. Be sure to use a medium ripe banana. Try and avoid using an overly ripe banana because it will be too soft. It is trial and error, but the taste buds will still be extremely satisfied.

It was a fun dessert to make.  Most of us already have these items on hand anyway. Who does not like easy and quick with bare minimum clean up? Life should be enjoyed. I am a foodie and if you are reading this blog, most likely you are too. We are all looking for shortcuts to make our “at home time” less stressful and more relaxing. While I do have to clean up after myself, I want to do it as quickly as possible so I can sit and enjoy my food rewards with my family and friends.

I just know this will be a rotating quick recipe that you will use for years to come and if you have little kids now, they will have fond memories of creating this recipe with you. Perhaps when they grow up they will create the same memories with their own families. Some of my favorite food memories have been from childhood and some day, I hope to pass those food creations and family memories of time spent together on to my own kids.

I call them Peanut Butter and Chocolate Banana Poppers because ,you can POP the whole thing in your mouth at once. You can also slice them up if you so choose. They are extra delicious chilled. It takes about 15 minutes for the chocolate to set in the refrigerator. So, keep them refrigerated until you are ready to eat them instead of leaving them out on your countertop.  They are really good cold.

This three-ingredient recipe satisfies the sweet tooth in just one or two servings. It is not heavy because it is meant to be a sweet treat with just the right combination of healthy benefits. So basically, you are eating something that does not require a half hour walk around the neighborhood. Now, that is something to “Go Bananas” over!

Enjoy!

  1. OMG… this recipe is really yummy as a snack or dessert. I sliced my bananas and froze them, then added the peanut butter and dipped in chocolate; instead of adding salt, I sprinkle chopped walnuts, pecans, cashews and then refrigerated for 15-20 mins… Delish!
