Ambrosia Salad is a creamy fruit salad that’s made with all sorts of ingredients such as fruit Cool Whip, Marshmallows (rainbow or regular), and sour cream. I love using Cool Whip with this recipe because it yields a creamy fruit salad. Different recipes may call for slightly different ingredients. However, many Ambrosia Salad recipes taste similar.

When I was young and would go to the farmers’ market with my family, I would always eyeball the ambrosia salad. I was amazed by how it was labeled a “salad” but it looked like such a sweet dessert. That’s because it’s a bit of both. It is a fruit salad that duplicates as a dessert.  I never tried this recipe however until I got older and was able to purchase it myself. And, while it is sweet, it’s not too sweet due to the addition of the sour cream that helps to balance out the flavor.

As a time saver and for a budget-friendly recipe, this recipe uses a can of fruit cocktail. In addition to the fruit cocktail, a can of diced pineapple and some green seedless grapes are used in the salad too.

If you would like to use other fruit such as bananas or mandarin oranges, then you are certainly welcome to add them. I added the green grapes since I had some left that I did not want to go to waste.

So, if you are looking for something unique and different to make then try making this. Although this is a known food, not many people think to make it when it comes to a large gathering or simply a small get-together. And, if you don’t like the additional fruits that are listed on the ingredient list, then feel free to add a few fruits of your own.
