This recipe makes enough for 4 to 6 servings. Prep time takes about 10 minutes. This includes chopping and dicing. Cooking time takes about 25 to 30 minutes. It is a fairly quick sauce recipe to make. A lot of people simmer their sauce for hours and hours, but that is not necessary here.

The ingredients that you will need to get started on making this recipe are 2 tablespoons of olive oil, ½ of a diced red onion, ½ of a diced green bell pepper, 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, ¼ cup of dry red wine (use your favorite!), 28 ounces of canned diced tomatoes, 16 ounces of tomato sauce, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, salt, and black pepper, to taste.

To get started on making this recipe, first, in a large pot, sauté the diced red onion and diced bell pepper in about 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until they are tender. This should take only about 5-6 minutes. Next, add the tomato paste and red wine. Mix everything well. Then, add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, granulated sugar, salt, and pepper, to taste. Turn the heat down to medium-low to simmer the sauce for 25 to 30 minutes. And, Finally…serve it over your favorite pasta and enjoy it!

When you take your first bite, you will be able to tell that this sauce is not from a jar! As you can tell, all of the ingredients come together in one big pot. Just a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and hopefully a lot of love is all that is needed to make this sauce taste delicious! The whole cooking process makes your house smell amazing!

You can double or triple this recipe to suit your needs. This sauce can be made and frozen for up to 4 months. An easy way to freeze this sauce is to pour it into ice cube trays. Whenever you want some, simply pop out the portion that you need and reheat it in a pot.

Now, if you aren’t so keen on chunky textures when it comes to sauce, then you can still make this recipe. Just allow the sauce to cool a bit, and then blend it to your desired texture. It won’t be chunky, but it will still taste the same! For all of my chunky sauce lovers, you will certainly love it this way! Enjoy making this Homemade Chunky Pasta Sauce and eating it with your favorite pasta!
