Sweet Potato Spinach Smoothie

Sweet Potato Spinach Smoothie

Waking up in the morning to make an energizing smoothie has become one of my favorite quarantine rituals lately. It is so easy and grounding to throw everything in the blender and have my breakfast be ready in only a few seconds. It feels great starting off my morning fueling my body with something that is good for it. When I’m not in the mood for a hearty breakfast, I like to make smoothies. They are fun to make because you can use all kinds of fruits and vegetables along with other ingredients to give your smoothie different flavors.

This Sweet Potato Spinach Smoothie is full of nutrients and is absolutely delicious. A few ingredients that I use in here might surprise you, but it is all for the benefit of your own body. As long as it is as equally tasty as it is nutritious, it is worth the try. For this smoothie, I used spinach, almond milk, roasted sweet potato, cinnamon, ice, Manuka honey, and chia seeds.

Why Use Chia Seeds?

The Chia Seed is a powerhouse for many essential nutrients such as fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, potassium, magnesium, calcium and protein. To show you just how powerful these seeds are, just a one-ounce serving yields 5 grams of omega-3 fatty acids. These seeds promote digestion and gut health. The calcium that they contain helps your bones and can even be of aid to those with bone issues.

When it comes to making my smoothies, I enjoy them most when they have some aspect of sweetness. I like using natural sweeteners as opposed to fruit juices loaded with sugar or even just plain sugar by itself. The roasted sweet potato used helps to give this drink a sweet boost. Although, this is not the only sweetener…

For some additional sweetness, I like to use Manuka honey in this smoothie. Be mindful that all honey is high in sugar, so it is best to take precautions if you have health concerns. Similar to Chia Seeds, Manuka Honey has many antioxidant benefits. Like Chia Seeds, it has digestive benefits. It can also soothe a sore throat, protect oral health, and is unlikely to cause cavities due to its host of antibacterial effects. What I like about using Manuka honey is the texture. This honey is thick which is great because it adds some substance in texture to the smoothie.
