Cinnamon Rolls

Ooooh. Ahhhh. Inhale…Try to Exhale and immediately Inhale again. Sounds like you are doing an exercise routine, but you are actually smelling the aroma of mouth watering Cinnamon Rolls baking in your oven. The cinnamon alone, might overpower your nostrils, but wait until you add the cream cheese topping as the frosting. More Ooohs and Aaahhs. I guarantee you, that you will not be able to discipline yourself with just one of these melt in your mouth treats. You might just eat the entire platter. Maybe not in the same sitting, but you will return for more before bedtime. I know I did.

This Cinnamon Roll recipe is super easy to make. Who wants to spend all day in the kitchen waiting for the yeast to rise? Not me. I used pizza dough. I am a very simple baker.  I like to spend more time consuming my food, than using up most of my day fussing with a recipe.

  • Spread onto freshly baked cinnamon rolls.

Notes

  • Pecans go well on top of the cinnamon rolls or inside with the cinnamon filling.

I also like to keep my ingredients simple because I keep myself on a budget. That way, I use what I already have in my pantry. It comes in handy for not overspending and being less wasteful. Before I make a recipe, I make certain that I have most of the ingredients. I do a quick cabinet and refrigerator assessment. I am a seasonings Queen, so I know I have plenty of seasonings in my pantry. And, I rarely run out of sugar and flour. I also tend to keep eggs and butter in my refrigerator as well.

I like going through the weekly circular, just to see which grocery store has the best deals that particular week.  A good way to save a little cash, but also enjoy the fruits of my labor. For this Cinnamon Bun recipe, the only thing I had to get was the pizza dough. I had all of the other ingredients including the cream cheese for the frosting so I was quite happy.

Should you consume these everyday? If you are watching your waistline, then probably not. However, if you want to indulge periodically and have a cheat day, then, go for it. I remember going to the mall and the smell of Cinnabon’s cinnamon buns lured me right there. The bun was super sweet, sticky and quite delicious.

And, the company is still around, but what you’d pay (around $4.00) for one regular Cinnabon and with one regular bun amounting to almost 1000 calories  per bun, you can make this simple recipe, eat all four, and still save yourself some calories to spare. A mini Cinnabon bun is about 350 calories, but I assure you that you will eat more than one mini bun.

That is why I love eating at home because I know exactly how much of this and that, I put in my recipe. Food should be tasty without giving us such a sugar rush, that we want to plop our bodies on the sofa all day and do absolutely nothing.

I say, eat the sweet stuff occasionally, without feeling guilty. If you make this delicious Cinnamon Roll, enjoy every morsel with a glass of milk, coffee, tea or water. Sweet Dreams!
