This recipe only requires a few ingredients. What you need to make this hot cocoa is 2 cups of milk (any kind), ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, ¼ cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract, and whipped cream and marshmallows, both of which are optional. Any kind of milk can be used. However, whole milk gives this hot cocoa a fuller and creamier flavor. If you prefer to use non-dairy milk, then that is perfectly fine for this recipe.

You might think, “A chocolate recipe that calls for vanilla extract…really?” Yes, really! A lot of people are hesitant to use vanilla in chocolate recipes. They fear that it won’t hold true to the chocolate flavor. However, contrary to that belief, vanilla extract only aids in enhancing the chocolate flavor and help it bloom. So, using vanilla extract is highly recommended.

This Hot Cocoa recipe makes enough to serve two people. The recipe can easily be doubled or tripled to make more servings. To get started on making this hot cocoa, in a small saucepan, whisk and heat the milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until everything is warm. Whisking helps to get rid of any cocoa and sugar clumps. Heat to your desired temperature and then, serve in mugs with optional additions of marshmallows and whipped cream. Try serving with some whipped cream and chocolate sauce, or some caramel sauce! It’s that easy!

This hot cocoa only takes about 1 minute of prep time and 5 to 6 minutes of cooking time. You can also make this Hot Cocoa recipe ahead of time and put it in the refrigerator. Then when you want to drink it, simply heat it up again and sip away!

I hope you enjoy making this quick, easy and tasty Hot Cocoa this fall, and beyond! Add it to your drinks list for the following seasons and enjoy!
