Blueberry Oat Smoothie

The very first time I tried this smoothie I was instantly hooked! This is a unique recipe that includes easy ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. This Blueberry Oat Smoothie is so thick (thanks to the oats) and pleasing to the palate that if you make it, it just might become your favorite kind of smoothie to enjoy in the morning.

It is a great and quick breakfast to make if you are rushing in the morning and have to get out the door. This drink includes an excellent source of fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals you need to start your day. Adding half a cup of rolled oats is the key because the oats thicken the smoothie up and offer various health benefits. Oats are known to lower your blood sugar levels and also lower cholesterol.

  • A few ice cubes

  • 1 cup 1 unsweetened almond milk

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 blueberries

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 rolled oats

  • 2 tablespoons 2 chia seeds

  • 1 tablespoon 1 Greek yogurt

Directions

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend.
  • Serve and Enjoy!

I just recently started adding Greek Yogurt to pretty much all my smoothies after trying it one time and realizing what a great protein benefit it adds to my diet. I find that by adding Greek Yogurt (or peanut butter to certain smoothie flavors) to my morning smoothies I stay full much longer throughout the day. You could even make this smoothie recipe and turn it into popsicles, you could make it a milkshake as a dessert after dinner by adding some ice cream, or you could make it into your own yogurt. This is why versatile recipes are so great.

Speaking of versatile recipes, many of the ingredients used in smoothies can also be used to make overnight oats. This Blueberry Oat Smoothie is very similar to my Overnight Oat recipe that I made with blueberries only that with the smoothie, I added ice and used sweetened almond milk. I tend to like my smoothies a little on the colder side, so if you are like me, just add a cup of crushed ice. You can also use frozen blueberries which are probably more ideal because when blended up, frozen fruit tends to produce a colder temperature for your drink causing you to not have to use ice.

And if you are wondering if this is a good recipe for your entire family, wonder no more! Since kids tend to enjoy sweeter smoothies, just add a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup to the blender and serve to your little ones. I believe introducing children to healthy recipes early on can set them up to want to eat healthier meals later in their adult life and can expose them to the importance of taking care of their bodies.

While making healthy recipes, such as smoothies, I often like to share with my family the benefits of each ingredient so they know what is in their food and how it will affect their body. This might not be a bad idea for you to do too! Your family will appreciate it and will learn so much more about nutrition.

I truly hope you make this recipe and experiment with it however you like! This just might be a new breakfast favorite. Happy Sipping! Enjoy!
